Set in 1998, ‘The Ghindaring’ is a film about Michael, a young boy from the small country town of Mount George in The Manning Valley, NSW and the legend of a mythical creature who is said to live in the region.
Michael learns of the Aborigines’ belief of this yowie from old Tom who lives in the surrounding hills. He warns that they are scary creatures protecting the bush and that Michael should not mess with them. Parents, Ben and Carol, try to convince him that the yowie is not real but with his vivid imagination and great sense of adventure Michael becomes determined to find the elusive Ghindaring. With friend Jason, he discovers evidence of the yowie’s existence.
Tensions mount on a dark and stormy night when Michael goes missing. A search party ventures off into the dense bush. Will they find Michael or will his disappearance become a mystery, just like the elusive Ghindaring?
The actors appearing in this film are local to the Manning Valley as are the screen writers and production crew. All scenes were shot around the Mt George area.
